Christopher Ashton Kutcher, now a famous actor, was once a normal Iowan. He was born on February 7th, 1978 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His twin brother was born about five minutes after him. When Ashton was 13 years old his brother had to undergo heart transplant surgery, which went smoothly. This medical emergency Ashton’s life and he later enrolled in the University of Iowa, where he studied biochemical engineering.

When Ashton was fifteen, his mother and her soon-to-be second husband moved to Homestead, Iowa, which was a relatively small farming community. Ashton excelled in sports throughout high school, but developed an overbearing interest in theater. His first production was “The Crying Princess and the Golden Goose” in 7th grade. He had a difficult choice in high school to choose sports or acting. He attempted juggling both until he was denied participating in any extracurricular activities because he pulled an after-school prank with some of his friends his senior year. He later attended the University of Iowa. It was while studying there he was eating in a restaurant and an agent approached him and suggested that he enter a modeling contest. He entered the contest and won. After that he was quickly signed to an exclusive agency, and traveled the world doing photo shoots for runway shows such as Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger.

In 1998, he decided to extend his talent and auditioned for That 70’s Show, and was very lucky to get the job since he was a new actor. After that first big hit, his career really launched. He has played in movies such as Just Married, Down to You, Dude, Where’s My Car, American Pie. He has also begun producing movies such as The Butterfly Effect, and My Boss’s Daughter. One of his most successful productions is his hidden camera reality TV series Punk’d. On this show Ashton plays practical jokes on celebrities.

By growing up in Iowa Ashton is able to enjoy the little things in life. He claims there wasn’t much to do in Iowa while growing up, so he learned how to bowl, and likes to read. Ashton is a great example of the potential of the typical Iowan, and Iowa is happy to claim him.
