This journal was about how kids with ADHD are more likely to us drugs and alcohol when they become adolescents. ADHD and ADD are one of the most commonly diagnosed mental health disorders of children. The number of children that have ADHD that do drugs and Alcohol are greater then the children with out ADHD. The Kids with ADHD that live in different parts of the country do different things. For example a child from New York is more likely to take drugs over drinking Alcohol when diagnosed with ADHD. There are many things in the journal that talk about how the different factor affect the different out comes. It is know that Kids with ADHD are more likely to do drugs then those with out it.


Some of the early warning signs are antisocial behavior, such has defiance and aggression. Conduct is a very good way to tell if you child is going to be a user of drugs based on if they have ADHD. The early warning signs are there they just have to be spotted for the child to get help. ADHD is also more likely to cause the person to use tobacco.


For the journal is says that the findings need more information on the use of substances. And then they need to compare it to the children with ADHD. Children with ADHD can be diagnosed by inattention, hyperactivity and being impulsive. These seem to be normal problems that children have growing up.


The study was done and made to be a way to clarify the size of the risk for early substance use of Children with ADHD. They tested whether or not the severity of the symptomatic in the ADHD children would cause and greater risk of substance use and the age of the child increase.


The test subjects where 142 adolescent with childhood ADHD and a 100 children with out it from a similar backgrounds and areas. All the subjects where tested for ADHD and then they would be able to go through the study.


The 100 adolescence that did not have ADHD where from news paper and magazine on campus of the local Pittsburg area. The study was done by talking to the subject and there parents in a one on one office interview, where the child was interviewed at different times from the parents. After the interview there was a paper and pencil test and the questions where read out loud to the adolescents who fallowed along on there on papers. Confidentiality from the department of health and they have a certificate of Confidentiality. Three teachers of Primary schools subjects were asked to complete ratings of the behavior and the academic performance of the student.


The Children with ADHD were not significantly more likely to use control substances then the subjects with out ADHD. But over the Life time the ADHD subjects are more likely to try drugs, then the subjects with out ADHD.
