A Career in Marketing

The type of career I will be looking into in this report will be in advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations and sales managers. I chose this career because I found the type of work needed to be successful in a career in marketing would suit me very well. I am interested in looking further into this as I move on to college. This report will not only help me let me know more about this career but also allow me to make sure that marketing could be something that I seriously consider for a future career. In the following sentences I will break down the whole marketing and promotions career and find out everything there is to know about the earnings, benefits and other related topics in the career of marketing.

The position Managers oversees are advertising and promotion staffs, which usually are small, except in the largest firms. In a small firm, managers may serve as a liaison between the firm and the advertising or promotion agency to which many advertising or promotional functions are contracted out. In larger firms, advertising managers oversee in-house account, creative, and media services departments. The account executive manages the account services department, assesses the need for advertising and, in advertising agencies, maintains the accounts of clients. The creative services department develops the subject matter and presentation of advertising. The creative director oversees the copy chief, art director, and their respective staffs. The media director oversees planning groups that select the communication media—for example, radio, television, newspapers, magazines, Internet, or outdoor signs to disseminate the advertising.

Public relations managers evaluate advertising and promotion programs for compatibility with public relations efforts and serve as the eyes and ears of top management. They observe social, economic, and political trends that might ultimately affect the firm and make recommendations to enhance the firm’s image according to what is hot at that time.

The average advertising career offers a yearly salary of about 71, 240. The lowest recorded salary was at 27, 840 while the highest was 137,780 so as you can see it all depends on how well you do your job to get the best salary. The benefits one receives from being an advertiser all depends on the company the person works for. The job can offer many benefits due to the amount of hours and travel one must do to be successful as an advertiser.

The career of advertising has been along for a long time due to simple fact that advertisement of a product sells. People have always used advertisement to sell products but it was not until large companies started forming that the career really had a boost. Companies have really become dependent on other people selling their product for them. Now that many companies have formed and television, radio and other forms of communication have came about we are now able to use these things to further market and help evolve the career of advertisement.

Travel plays a big part in this career and it is very likely that a person working in this business will have to attend many meetings and training sessions. Advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations, and sales managers are provided with offices close to those of top managers. Long hours, including evenings and weekends, are common. Almost 38 percent of advertising, marketing, and public relations managers worked 50 hours or more a week in 2000. Working under pressure is unavoidable when schedules change and problems arise, but deadlines and goals must be achieved.
